Super intelligence
and the work ahead
for Canada.

A Canadian base for exploring increasingly capable AI, with practical work businesses can start today.

Start with the meaning.

Artificial superintelligence describes a prospective level of AI capability exceeding human capability broadly. Lab Super Intelligence is our brand and ambition. It does not mean that we have built or deployed such a system.

The useful question for a Canadian business today is more immediate: what can current AI do for a real task, under conditions the team can understand and review?

Canada is already a place for AI work.

Canada’s AI research and adoption ecosystem includes the national institutes Amii in Edmonton, Mila in Montréal and the Vector Institute in Toronto. The federal Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy describes work supporting research, standards and commercial adoption.

LabSI is an independent initiative based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. These organisations provide national context; we do not imply a partnership or affiliation.

Useful work, before broad claims.

Local language models can be evaluated on the hardware and documents a business actually has. Agents can be given a narrow job, visible tool permissions and a human review step. Coding assistants can be assessed through the software they help a person build and maintain.

None of these possibilities removes the need for evidence. A pilot should record the task, setup, comparison, outputs and failures. The result is a basis for a decision, not a claim about every business or every model.

Three ways to put the ambition to work.

  • Local AI: understand model fit, hardware needs, data flows and dependencies.
  • Agent systems: test clear roles, tool access and review handoffs.
  • Applied pilots: compare one AI-assisted task with an understandable baseline.

Data residency needs a specific answer.

A Canadian domain and a Canadian business address do not establish where every model, file or service processes information. Local inference can be part of a project, while other tools still connect to cloud services. Residency requirements need to be checked across the whole configuration.

From Sherwood Park, for the next practical question.

Bring a task, a source document set or an idea worth testing. We can discuss what would make the experiment useful and whether LabSI is the right place to begin.
